Welcome August! Synonymous of vacations, beach and heat, nothing better than pairing it with a white wine.
The wine that we propose for this month of August is a Spanish white wines, from Bodega Pinoso. A fresh and delicious white wine to enjoy in the best company or to relax alone.
White wines are the most appropriate, since during this time of the year people usually go to the beach or for a walk and often eat sandwiches, omelets, salads, pastas, seafood or fish. With this menu, white wines pair very well.
Spanish winery Pinoso
Bodegas Pinoso was set up as a cooperative in 1932 and the work carried out in the vineyards faithfully respects the wine traditions of their wine producers.
The coming together and effort put in by the founding members of Bodegas Pinoso meant that the winery quickly became renowned for the quality of its wines. At the end of the 90’s the winery began to rethink its quality policy by designating the first areas of the winery land to be used for certified ecological vineyard plots. Nowadays, 50% of their vineyards are organic.
Spanish White Vergel wine
It is the result of the blending of old vines of Airén, a genuinely Spanish variety, and the Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes grown in their best dry land according to traditional methods.
Pale yellow with golden reflections. Aromas of ripe fruit (peach, apricot, guava), white flowers and spices (ginger, white pepper) and hint of butter. Powerful, sweet and broad. An elegant wine, traditional and modern at the same time.
This white wine pairs with all types of fish, oysters, white meat, pasta, vegetables and salads.
Airen and Sauvignon Blanc grapes
The wine made from Airén is pale yellow in color and has characteristic iridescence or green highlights. The Airen grape variety it is indigenous from Spain, and it grows mainly in the in the center of the Iberian Peninsula or in the south east of Spain.
It's aromas, although not particularly powerful, are interesting. On the nose, fruity aromas of banana, apple, grapefruit and pineapple stand out.
The acidity is low to moderate, while the alcohol content is high. They are light-bodied wines, frank but fresh and easy to drink thanks to the slight sweetness present in the mouth.
Currently, many wineries are betting on making wines with Airén, prioritizing quality over yield. This is achieved with an optimal selection of vines, preferably old and with lower yields, control of grape ripening, early harvesting and temperature control in the fermentation process so that the wine can express its aromas.
These wines are highly appreciated outside Spain for their clean aromas with citrus and fruit tones and their good structured character.
Airén is a grape that works especially well for making young and traditional wines. As it is considered a neutral grape, it is very suitable for making blended wines. It combines particularly well with Sauvignon Blanc, also with other grapes such as Chardonnay, Macabeo, merlot, and Verdejo.
Sauvignon blanc is a greenish-skinned grape that is less adaptable and less versatile than other white varieties. This leads it to produce wines with a very marked personality depending on the terroir in which it grows. Therefore, Sauvignon Blanc will depend a lot on the place it comes from, which through its climate, its additions and its terroirs will give a different personality to each wine of this variety.
Thus, depending on the climate, its flavor varies from aggressively herbaceous to sweetly tropical. In cooler climates, the grape has a tendency to produce wines with noticeable acidity and flavors of green grass, green peppers and tropical fruits, as well as floral notes.
In warmer climates it can develop more tropical fruit notes but with the risk of losing aromas due to over-ripening.
Spanish White wine, Alicante wine region
From the diversity of climates, regions and varieties, Alicante presents a catalog of the most varied in terms of types of wines. Far from wanting to be a thematic D.O. with only one category for marketing imperatives, they are creative, diverse and varied as a reflection of the Mediterranean spirit that has always accompanied them. That is why they are the Alicante Wines (plural) and that is why they have styles of wines. Curiously, almost none of them goes unnoticed and all of them speak of their origin. There is an Alicante wine for every type of consumer, and that is a cultural advantage that we cannot underestimate.
The main white wines in this area are Muscatel. Inimitable. And even more so when it comes to the Muscat of Alexandria from the Marina Alta, in no way comparable to other muscatels from nearby areas. The wines have very pale and clean tones, with its characteristic aromas of white flowers: orange blossom, jasmine, lily... and in the mouth they are light, persistent and with a very good acidity, perfect for a wide pairing.
Wines from the Mediterranean and with more structure, with grapes such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, etc... all very fruity and fresh.
